Site audits¶
A site audit checks many pages of one website at once and shows the risk per check, per section and per page. Open New site audit. The wizard has four steps; nothing is charged before you confirm in step 4.
Step 1: where are your pages?¶
Pick one tab:
- Sitemap - type the website (for example
example.com) or the sitemap address. A sitemap is the list of pages a website publishes for search engines; we find it for you. Sitemaps that point to other sitemaps work too. - Paste sitemap - copy the contents of your sitemap (XML) and paste it. Useful when the sitemap is not public.
- Paste addresses - one page address per line.
- Upload file - TXT (one address per line), CSV (a column named
url) or ZIP (index.csvwithurl, filenameplus saved.htmlfiles, checked without visiting the site).
We remove duplicates, broken addresses and private or local addresses, and keep pages from one website. Click Find pages to see how many pages we found.
Step 2: pick the pages¶
- Sections of the site - the first part of the address (
/blog/,/shop/) with the number of pages. Untick the sections you do not want. Select all / Select none help with long lists. - Filter by address - only pages that match, or skip pages that match: Starts with (
/blog), Contains (tag) or Pattern (*= any text,?= one character). You can also skip exact addresses. - Page types - addresses grouped by shape, for advanced selection.
- Which pages to check: a balanced sample (recommended: some of the newest plus a random mix from every section), a random sample, or all matching pages - and at most this many pages (beta: up to 200 per audit).
Below you see live how many pages match, the first of them and the price.
Step 3: what should we check?¶
- Spam - tricks that break Google's spam rules, such as hidden text, keyword stuffing or paid links.
- Quality - how trustworthy and useful the page looks to a careful reader.
- Helpful content - whether the page is written for people: real experience, a clear author and a real answer.
Each has its price per page; all three together are the full audit and cost less than the sum. You can add the other checks to the finished audit later and pay only the difference. Options: JavaScript for sites that show content only with JavaScript, and quotes for problems, as in a single check.
Step 4: check and confirm¶
You see the number of pages, the price, the money available this month (with top-ups) and the time. If the audit costs more than you have, lower the number of pages or choose fewer checks. Click Start audit for $…. Pages we cannot open are not charged.
Results¶
The audit page shows progress, risk by check and by page type, and the list of pages with links to page reports. Export to HTML, PDF or CSV, or share the audit with a link. Running and queued audits are listed under Jobs.
